Kent is a Swedish alternative rock band formed in Eskilstuna in 1990.The most well-known lineup included Joakim Berg (vocals, guitars), Martin Sköld (bass, keyboards), Sami Sirviö (guitar), and Markus Mustonen (drums, backing vocals). They released twelve studio albums (two of them also in English), plus EPs and compilations, and scored many number-one albums in Sweden. Kent’s earlier work leaned more toward distorted rock, but over time they incorporated more synthpop / electronic elements, especially from their 2007 album Tillbaka till samtiden onward.
They briefly tried to break into the international market by releasing English versions of Isola (1997) and Hagnesta Hill (1999), but the effort did not yield sustained success.
Kent officially announced their disbandment in 2016 after releasing their final album Då som nu för alltid. Interestingly, in 2025 they reunited (for a limited number of shows) in their home country, surprising many fans.
For music nerds: one of Kent’s signature concert closers for years was the song “747,” which is exactly 7 minutes and 47 seconds long.
